Digital Transformation

Plano Community Coworking Website & Communications Strategy

Challenge

When churches started reimagining their spaces in late 2020, I jumped at the chance to help First United Methodist Church Plano transform their facility into a vibrant coworking community. Starting from scratch, I crafted engaging ways to connect with both our congregation and local remote workers – two different audiences who needed to understand how this space could serve them. As the communications lead, I got to shape how we told our story – from dreaming up the initial marketing strategy to creating all the little details that would make people feel welcome. I developed messaging that resonated with church members while also reaching out to professionals looking for a collaborative workspace in our community. To bring the vision to life, I planned special events tailored to remote workers and entrepreneurs, like networking meetups and skill-sharing workshops. On the creative side, I designed everything from eye-catching signs to an inviting website using Canva, SquareSpace, and Google Workspace. The best part was adapting our approach as the community's needs evolved, making sure everyone felt like they were part of something special from day one.

Transform an underutilized church facility into a vibrant coworking community through effective digital communications. The project required reaching and engaging two distinct audiences – church congregation members and local remote workers – with different needs and expectations. My challenge was to create a comprehensive digital presence from scratch to explain the concept, promote services, and build community engagement.

Strategic Approach

  • Developed audience personas to understand the distinct needs of congregation members versus professional remote workers

  • Created a unified messaging framework that resonated with both audiences while maintaining consistent branding

  • Designed an information architecture for the website that provided clear pathways for different user journeys

  • Established a content calendar for ongoing digital communications to maintain engagement

  • Integrated online communication strategies with in-person events to build a cohesive community experience

Implementation

  • Designed and built a comprehensive website using SquareSpace with user-friendly navigation and service information

  • Created digital content including promotional graphics, informational materials, and event announcements

  • Established and maintained social media presence to reach target audiences where they were most active - LinkedIn, Facebook and Instragram

  • Developed email communications strategy for announcements, event promotions, and community updates

  • Designed digital signage and wayfinding materials that connected the online experience to the physical space

  • Planned and promoted community-building events targeted to remote workers using digital channels
